Monument honoring US Colored Troops moves forward in Rocky Mount
ROCKY MOUNT — A monument honoring 70 Black soldiers who served in the Union Army during the Civil War soon will be erected in Rocky Mount after the Franklin County Veterans’ Memorial Commission approved plans last week in a 6-5 vote.

Rocky Mount mayor moonlights as trivia night host
ROCKY MOUNT — The Living Proof Beer Co. holds a weekly trivia night on Wednesdays hosted by members of the community. One notable regular host is new Mayor C. Holland Perdue III, who has become a standout and favorite of the crowd.
Patrons pack into the quaint Rocky Mount brewery for the trivia nights. In the months since he started hosting, Perdue has won over the rambunctious crowd.

Is the Franklin County Board of Supervisors treating residents of Rocky Mount fairly?
In a highly unusual move, Rocky Mount Mayor C. Holland Purdue spoke during the public comment portion of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors meeting to ask the board why they won’t work with him on two key issues. “I’m here today to renew my calls for communication between Franklin County and Rocky Mount,” said Purdue, “Rocky Mount is not an independent city it is part of Franklin County.”

Rocky Mount mayor seeks collaboration
At Tuesday’s public comment portion of the meeting, Rocky Mount Mayor C. Holland Perdue III addressed supervisors concerning whan he considers to be their lack of support in two projects. The town is requesting the county’s help in the purchase of a new ladder truck for the town’s fire department and to assist in providing incentives for a developer to construct a new hotel in town.

Rocky Mount government and social services agency seek to raise awareness of child abuse prevention
Rocky Mount Mayor Holland Perdue attended the event and read to the attendees and to the staff of DSS, the Town of Rocky Mount’s Resolution 2023.005 Proclaiming April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The mayor gave the FCDSS a framed copy of this proclamation.

Rocky Mount Town Council seeks legislative approval for council, mayor term limits
A vote to change to the town’s charter to include term limits was unanimously approved Monday and now must go to the Virginia General Assembly. If the legislature approves, the mayor and council members will be limited to three consecutive terms of four years each.
